Kidon To produce a digest of news from around the world on a particular day or over a period of a few days: a summary of the headline stories or areas of interest in selected English language newspapers around the world.

Method:
The digest will consist of summary articles each composed by pairs or small groups of students working directly from online material, or from material collected previously. This will depend very much on access to online connection. If this is limited then it may be up to the teacher to glean material, download it and then organise it to be available on disc for students to use.

The students will have to be familiar with the methods of capturing and downloading text and graphics and saving to disc. If they are using the latest versions of the leading browsers this is a relatively simple task.

The following assumes that online connection is available at intervals over a period of days.

The group to nominate key points around the world where they think it would profitable to follow the news over a period of a week, eg Paris, Jerusalem, Moscow, Delhi, Cairo, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, China, Tokyo, Sydney, Chile, etc.

First of all, look at online sites which list English language newspapers around the world such as Kidon Media-Link. Identify and visit the newspaper sites of the countries or cities selected and assess their worth as places to follow over a period of days. This assessment could be done on a collective basis if a digital projector is available. Having made the selection devise a timetable of online access to look at the sites each day and download the main stories or features.

From the material collected, each group composes a digest of the news for that news outlet for that particular week in a wordprocessor file. The digest should be in the form of summaries of the material with apposite quotes and graphics, and, if possible, personal observations on what they have found.
