• PC version of the English Online screensaver:
  • Standard version for recent computers
  • Lower specification version for older computers

How do you install the screensaver?

1 – Installing to PCs with Microsoft Windows

Decide which version you want:

• the standard English Online screensaver (for recent computers, say up to three years old) - or
• the lower specification version (for older computers, probably using Windows 95)

If after installing one version you find it runs too fast or too slow for your machine, you can easily install the other version.

Follow these instructions if you are familiar with installing screensavers

1. If you are familiar with running screensavers simply download the screensaver onto the desktop.
2. Double click on the screensaver to extract it. You will be asked if you want to extract over the existing file - say yes to this.
3. A screensaver icon will appear on your desktop. Double click on this icon and the English Online screensaver will be added to the list of screensavers in My Computer, Control Panel, Display, Screen Saver.
4. You can delete the file on your desktop once the screensaver is installed and working satisfactorily.

Follow these instructions if you have never installed a screensaver before

1. Click on the link for either the standard version or the lower specification version to download the English Online screensaver to your computer.
2. Double click on the screensaver to extract it. You will be asked if you want to extract it over the existing file - say yes to this.
3. A small icon labelled eol_pc.exe or eol_lowspec_pc.exe will have appeared on the desktop of your computer. The desktop icon will be something like this:
4. Double click on this icon to install the screensaver. In your list of screensavers it will be called eol screensaver.
5. To find and use your screensaver double click on the My Computer icon on your desktop.
6. Double click on the Control Panel icon.
7. Double click on the icon labelled Display and the following window will appear:
8. Click on the tab labelled Screen Saver
9. Click on the list underneath the heading Screen Saver and a drop-down menu will appear. From this list select eol screensaver.
10. In the box next to Wait you can set the screensaver to appear after a set period of time if your computer is not being used - e.g. the example shows that the screensaver is set to appear if the computer hasn't been used for 1 minute.
11. Finally click on the button which says Apply and then on the OK button. Your screensaver should appear after the time you have set - in this example if your computer has not been used for 1 minute.

2 - Installing to Apple Macintosh computers

1. Click on the link to download the screensaver.
2. Open the self-extracting archive to uncompress it.
3. Click on your computer's control panel.
4. Drag the EOL_screensaver over your system folder and drop it there. Say OK to the message which appears.
5. Alter the screensaver settings on your control panel to suit your preferences.
6. Please note that the screensaver will only become active after you have re-started your computer.
